Instructions

The Thule Universal Change Key Suitable for D1251 or Yakima SKS Removal key is used to insert or remove One-Key lock cores from lock housings. The Universal Change Key only works on lock cores in the unlocked position. The universal change key will not unlock the rack.

If you are trying to remove or swap a lock that is in the locked position, you must first unlock it using your key. If you are missing your key we can cut one to your number here. The Universal Change Key operates by deactivating the core/barrel retainer. It also works with locks marked SKS as per the instructions below.

What is the Universal Change Key used for?

  • To remove or tighten your existing rack installation.
  • To change or service your lock or to have keys cut.
  • To remove a lock core from a lock housing:
  • Make sure the lock core you are trying to remove is in the unlocked position (or in the case of rooftop boxes, turned to the half point removal angle)

Insert the Universal Change Key into the lock core

Wiggle the lock core out using the Universal Change Key (to assist, push from behind if rear of lock core is accessible)

To install a lock core into a lock housing:

  • Insert the Universal Change Key into the keyhole of the lock.
  • Align the wafers along the side of the lock core with the opening of the lock housing
  • Insert the lock core with Universal Change Key into the lock housing
  • With your finger holding the lock core in place, remove the Universal Change Key
  • Your lock core is now installed and can be locked and unlocked with your regular keys
  • Test the key to ensure correct operation.
